Impact: Assessment and Feedback

Assessment and feedback is an important part of Science learning. 

Every lesson includes a Learning Objective which highlights the skill and knowledge being developed in that lesson. At the end of the lesson, these are highlighted green if achieved as part of teacher, peer or self-assessment.

What are the common features of different invertebrate groups?

I can describe how invertebrates are classified into broad groups according to common observable characteristics based on similarities and differences.

At the beginning of each unit, a unit cover is introduced. This outlines the knowledge and skills being developed, the enquiry questions being investigated and links to an inspirational scientist or scientists. 

At the end of each unit, an end-of-unit assessment is completed. This is done orally as a class in KS1 and recorded individually in KS2. These, alongside ongoing assessment, help to inform teacher assessment judgements which are recorded half termly and monitored by the subject lead. Gaps in knowledge or skill can then be addressed through additional sessions or RFL (retrieval for learning) at the beginning of each lesson.
