Autumn 2017 1st Half Term
Our text for the first part of the term is Varmints, the sad tale of a creature whose rural world in taken over by strange creatures who bring tall buildings, smog and darkness.
We will be writing an autobiographical 1st person narrative based on the text with inspiration taken from Floella Benjamin's autobiography which we are looking at in guided reading.
Following this we will be writing an argument text linking to our topic 'Our Changing World'.
We will end the half term by looking at 'The Raven' by Edgar Allen Poe.
This half term we will be focusing on using our times tables knowledge to improve speed and accuracy across the Maths curriculum.
As Year 6s, we will be getting to grips with long multiplication, looking deeper into fractions, percentages and decimals and will be exploring algebra, scaling and ratio.
We have begun the new year by reflecting on the school values and how these link to the values shared in the Kingdom of God. We will continue to explore the Kingdom of God and how these values can be shared in our every day lives.
|In science, year 6 will begin by exploring the Circulatory System. We will be looking at the work of Charles Drew and investigating the effects substances such as tobacco and the benefits of exercise for our heart and lungs.||
This half term, we will looking at 'Our changing Planet'. This will involve exploring the erosion and weathering, looking at how boundaries move and researching the impact of human activity on the earth.
Outdoor PE will be focusing on ball skills needed in games like Netball and Basketball.
Indoor PE will be centered around the creation of a gymnastics routine.
Children should be reading every day and practising their spellings and times table tasks daily.
Children will be sent home with weekly revision tasks which they should be sharing with you. They should be completing this alongside their main homework task. If any children would like additional work, they are welcome to request this.
