Maths

RE       Science Topic PE      

This term the children will be working through a number of different units including; 

stories with recurring language,

explanations,

reports and poetry.

The topics covered in maths will include;

  • Number and place value
  • Addition and subtraction 
  • Multiplication and division
  • Fractions
  • Measure(capacity, length, mass.)
  • Position and Direction
  • Properties of shapes
  • Statistics

 Our first topic is called 'The Good News' which will

 develop the

children’s knowledge

and understanding of

the joy that Jesus brings and to reflect on how we can bring joy to others.

The children will learn that Jesus brings the good news of God’s love through his miracles and so turns sadness into joy.

The second topic is 'The Mass' where the children will develop their  knowledge and understanding of the celebration of the Mass.

They will  learn about the readings at Mass and why they should listen to them.

They will know what happens at the Offertory and that the bread and wine are changed into Jesus.

 

 

 

 

 This term we are learning about

'Living things and their habitats'.

Children will

 classify things as living, once alive and never alive and learn about

the characteristics

of living things.

They will also look at different habitats and see how animals and plants are suited to them.
 

This term

we will look at Charles Darwin's life and his work with nature. 

We will also find out about the town of Shrewsbury,

 where Charles  was born and spent his early life.

 

In P.E

the children will develop their

skills for outdoor games,

dance and gymnastics.  

 

Other notices: 

-Reading - please ensure you read with your child and record reading in their diary at least 5 times per week. 

- Spelling tests are completed on a Thursday and new spellings are set on a Friday.

Homework is given out on a Friday and is to be completed by the following Wednesday.

PE kits will be needed on a Monday and remain in school the entire week (this should include both outdoor and indoor clothing)

-Please provide a named water bottle for your child.

-The SATs tests for Year 2 will be taking place in the final two weeks of May. In preparation for this, below are some useful links to websites/games that can act as revision for the children covering some of the basic knowledge they require to access the papers;
